Help Empower Our Girls to Change the World
Kakenya's Dream is an international nonprofit organization leveraging education to empower girls, end harmful traditional practices including female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, and transform communities in rural Kenya.
Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya is a leading advocate for girls’ education and empowerment. After surviving FGM and avoiding an arranged marriage as a child, Kakenya went on to become the first woman from her community to go to college in the United States. She founded Kakenya’s Dream in 2008 to continue paving the way for the next generation of women leaders in her community in Kenya.
The communities we serve in rural Kenya are some of the most marginalized and underserved in the world. According to the 2022 Kenya Demographic and Healthy Survey, 66% of women undergo FGM, 1 in 2 marry before age 19, and only 58% finish primary school in the counties we primarily operate. But at Kakenya’s Dream, 100% of the girls in our programs finish school and live free from FGM and child marriage. We believe every girl, no matter where she is born, deserves a chance to dream, learn, and achieve her full potential.
